Neural Mechanism of Negative Symptoms -Mainly on Biochemical correlates and Brain imaging studies

Abstract
Positive/psychotic-like and negative/deficit symptoms in schizophrenia have been hypothesized to be associated with distinct pathophysiologies in schizophrenia. Deficit symptoms have been associated with increased cognitive impairment, structural
brain
alteration including ventricular enlargement, and decreased dopamine activity in specific brain region, especially frontal areas. To attempt to integrate our existing knowledge about the underlying neural mechanisms and pathophysiology of
negative
symptoms and to suggest future directions in schizophrenia, two syndromal concept of schizophrenia, brain imaging studies in schizophrenia, relationships between dopaminergic abnormalities and clinical symptoms, and bidirectional dopamine
hypothesis
were reviewed and conceptualized.
